Expat Parent, a parenting magazine tailored for expat parents with children up to 18 years old in Hong Kong. To start with, they need a nameplate for the magazine. The font Clarendon in black is used, which gives a bold, slightly masculine and stylish look and feel. While the same font in pastel colour could balance the opposite blackness and boldness, and provide a lively, vivid, approachable but not cheesy character to the magazine at the same time.
When applying the nameplate on the magazine cover, the pastel colour of ‘parent’ will be different each time. The pastel colour is created by picking a colour from the colour palette of the cover photo and converted to a pastel tone. Sticking to pastel colours is to avoid the cheesy and childish look of a typical parenting magazine, while still keeping the approachable and lively image of the magazine.
